Hike the "minor peaks" of San Francisco

  • Saturday, February 26, 2011
  • 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Buena Vista Park, San Francisco

In the wake of the successful Pinnacles National Monument hike, NCSWA is inviting you on a second winter outing to shake the post AAAS blues away. This time, we stay closer to home in a unique view of our fair little city. Often called the "minor peaks" hike of San Francisco, this cute little loop hike includes Buena Vista, Corona Hills, Tank Hill, and Kite Hill. Believe it or not, you spend much of the time walking on either dirt or the hidden walkways in Southern San Francisco. Unlike the Pinnacles hike, there will be no rangers or biologists, just science writers. That's not to say there won't be plenty of geology to spot along the way. We will meet at Buena Vista Park and hike south. Wear comfortable shoes, since it will be a couple miles with some hills. Afterward expect a stop at a local pub for drinks and recovery.

Date: Saturday, Feb. 26 (Heavy rain will postpone the hike to another day TBD)
Time: 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (give or take)
Cost: Free
Transportation: There is public transportation, both Metro and bus. Otherwise, carpool is encouraged.
Map to the park: We will meet on the corner of Haight and Buena Vista Park.
